Sow Freedom Campaign

Ending Gestation Crate Confinement

"No mother should suffer for our plates. Every sow deserves dignity and the freedom to move."

In today's intensive indoor farms, mother pigs (sows) are routinely locked in metal crates just days after mating. These gestation crates are so small the sow cannot even turn around, denying her most basic instincts and causing immense physical and emotional suffering.

Our Demands:

  • A legal ban on gestation crates nationwide
  • Transition support for farmers to adopt free-movement housing systems
  • Clear labeling so consumers know when they are buying crate-free products

Free-movement housing systems already exist and prove that higher welfare and productivity can go hand in hand. Together, we can build a food system that reflects our values of compassion and respect.

  • Interactive street installations simulating hen confinement
  • Petition drives targeting major supermarket chains
  • Corporate roundtables to encourage cage-free commitments
